Late Entries

There was a death on my wife's side of the family. Grea great grandma Johnson was 105 years old when she passed away a few weeks ago. I had some ideas that I wanted to get out, but didn't have the time. Please excuse the tardiness. These were what I had in mind for those two topics.

Hulk Late!

Sorry my "Hulk Smash" is so late, gang. It's actually the second big work I've done this week, the other being a portrait; you can see that on my blog, if you'd like, along with a brief explanation of this piece, which is called "Where Innovation Goes to Die." Now, I've gotta get cracking on that "TV Dinner" thing...

SORRY FOR POSTING THIS LATE, but at least I finished it. Nothing special about the composition (a character posing against the moon is pretty cliche, huh?), since I pretty much already did this in a previous piece. Regardless, I hope you like it. Enjoy!

HULK SMASH (UPDATE)

Thanks for the critiques this week folks. Sometimes you can't catch glaring errors in your own work and it takes a fresh set of eyes to point out some obvious flaws. I went in and added the missing far leg - I think it looks better now. And I can't believe that I gave the Hulk 5 fingers on one hand. What was I thinking? Guess I was working a little too late :)

Back then, they had to participate in underground, unsanctioned brawls to pay the bills.

Since I haven't drawn anything in a few weeks, I figured I would combine the last three themes into one.

Everyday Hulk
For some reason this is what I thought of when I heard hulk smash. Poor hulk he'll never find a fresh enough tomato.

Here's somethin' I did at a past job that was totally fun. They wanted somethin' for their website, they wanted it to move, and they wanted Hulk, so this is what I came up with. I did everything here except the sound and the design for Hulk's face which I stole from comic book artist Kaare Andrews. We even e-mailed him to ask if it would be alright to use it but he never wrote back.

Lucky for me, Hulk Hogan is EXACTLY the same proportions as the Incredible Hulk...
I also like drawing shattered glass so Hulk smashing though a window was a gimme.

This was too funny not to post. JOHN GRIFFIN isn't a member yet , but he heard about this weeks subject matter and couldn't resist. I am posting his peice on behalf of John until his membership arrives.Funny stuff John.

HULK SMASH

The Hulk is a kind, gentle, stupid monster. He likes to play, and is very inquisitive of the world around him. Unfortunately, having super strength causes more trouble than it's worth for poor Hulk. In this particular scenario, even the combined might of Superman, Santa Claus, Abe Lincoln and Orko can not stop The Hulk before it's too late.

this is just one of the facial studies i did of the hulk, i might get around to scanning some of the others...

I’ve never drawn The Hulk before but here’s my chance too. I thought it would be funny to put The Hulk in a situation and then do what he does best - destroy things.

We could start a seperate blog just for I Love The 80's posts! Great theme Bob, and awesome entries by everybody. This week it just gets better. Kevin has a very specific theme, which should be great to see how everyone interprets it:

HULK SMASH.

One of the things I love most about comics is that in a way they are like campfire story telling, or folklore. Each person who is interpreting that character will put their own spin on what they think that character is or should be.So,…for this week the theme is “HULK SMASH.” The Hulk must be portayed smashing something or someone. This can be comedic or serious. Most importantly,….portray the character as you see him, or wished he would be. I think it will be interesting to see the different results derived from the seed of the same character and the same action.
