Clown Hotel

This is my first pass at sketching for this topic. (I won't have time to work on it anymore for a while.) Actually, Catherine reminded me of this experience. We also drove everywhere on vacations- no fancy airplanes for us! So, we'd stay in a lot of hotels- some a bit more interesting than others. One time we stayed in a very small hotel run by ex-clowns. I took the liberty exaggerating a bit in this sketch!

Road Trip

As a kid, I only went on road trips. No plane travel for the Pryor family. Good memories traveling through the landscape of America. This was inspired a little bit by my last trip across the Continent, traveling through Utah.

Week 27

Road Trip
Outsider Art Club, session 127

After a few weeks off, let's kick the OAC back into gear, this time focusing on your most memorable (or regrettable?) Road Trip! No matter where you go or who you go with, any journey in a car ends up with some kind of crazy story. Whether it was getting lost, meeting someone new, or getting chased by a bear, everyone's had an experience to tell.

If not, make up one more ridiculous than you could ever experience...

Let's get drawing!

week 08: TV Dinner

I really tried to give this picture a nice and clean 50's look, and I am quite pleased by the 'overall' look.
If this invention were ever in existense... it would have been like NERF guns, those darn things never got old!!! ***And never get cheaper either....***

I wanted to make those pink/purple dots in the background like bubble gumb, meaning "the bubble gumb era" but that didn't turn out that well.

I tried to give the baseball bat a nice red white & blue look, making it all American, totally fitting the 50's era.

And I also tried to add some people in the background, but nothing really looked right except for good old gumb. ***wish it were still .25 cents***

Week 26

Celebrity Faceoff
Outsider Art Club, session 126

I was watching an old Bruce Lee movie recently, and I was marveling at speed and grace of a guy whose movies I hadn't watched since I was a little, little boy. I started getting super-excited while watching it, wondering who the heck the final boss was gonna be for Bruce Lee to figth. These movies are totally like playing an old-school video game, like fighting through Double Dragon or Streets of rage for the first time, just wondering what you'd get to fight against next. So who does master of fighting Bruce Lee get paired up against as the ultimate test of his fighting spirit?

Kareem Abdul Jabbar.

That's right, Los Angeles Laker, b-ball supastar, teammate of Magic Johnson. Wha-huh? Inspiration struck. So this week's entry into the canon of OAC themes is:

Celebrity FaceOff

Take two (or more!) of the most ridiculous celebrities, dead, alive or imagined, and stage a showdown between the two. The more ridiculous and unbelievable the better!

Alrighty, let's get drawing!

For the kids

I made prints of this for a friend who recently had a baby boy.
