"I'm on ICE!"
I hope the idea comes across alright here. Lemme know though.
I meant for this one to be real quick. For the most part it was, but man, I could go for days tryin' to pick out colors. Sometimes, a limited palette is the toughtest to deal with.
I ain't too crazy 'bout the design of caveman frozen in the ice. Some weird choices I made lookin' back on it. The shape of the body, some of the incomplete lines in the head, how the head connects to the body. The strange thing was, I remember thinking that I should push his expression more while I was drawing him but then thinking, "I just want to get this done". Like I was rushing my homework just so I could get to that new video game. Pages 31-33 odds from my math book before I could get to my brand new $60 Super Street Fighter 2 on the SNES. Agony.
I scanned every development doodle for this image and put 'em up on my blog if anyone cares to take a peek.

I think it turned out pretty cool!!! I really like the expressions of the cavemen and how the color shapes go outside of the lines. And your clouds rock!!
The idea comes across perfect. I like your take on this one, clever and very funny.
I like the Frozen Caveman design; everything fits together really well. Only thing I noticed was you may want to push the contrast a bit more between the Frozen Caveman line-work and the blocked colors. There are a few areas that are bit hard to "read".
Then again, it could just be my hasn't-been-color-corrected-in-forever monitor.

Yeah, you're right about the contrast e. You don't know how much I go back and forth over things like that. It seriously takes me days sometimes because I need time away from it and come back with fresh eyes the next morning or whatever.
In the end, I gotta pull the plug sometime and that's one decision I think you're right - I should go back to the darker lines for the frozen caveman.
The original intention was to make him feel more like he's in the ice so tinting the lines a similar color I thought would help. Overall, now when I look at it, I do feel like "oh, and there's some oddly lightened lines over here".
Interesting. There's a lot of science in art for me. More along the lines of decision making. I wish there was a way to chart everything my brain is thinking as I'm drawing and have this huge print out I can look at. I'm not sure why - I think it'd just be cool.
I'm gonna nitpick Bob. I think the red lava looks too much like blood. I would go with a more orange color instead, or maybe add a glow to it?
This was close to my idea, but you have some great touches here that I never would have thought of and I really enjoy. The firetruck with the volcano is one of them. Sure, what else would they use? I sketched some firemen with sticks - Yours are obviously more sophisticated. I love the guage on the truck that just says "Hot".
I agree with E on the shape to line contrast ratio. It's a hard balance just like you say - something that works in one place may throw something off in another part of the image. I have the same nighmares.
On the plus side, the drawing contains little suprises not easily seen at first glance. There's a payoff by taking a closer look and noticing those details.
Lava, blood - eh, it's all the same :)
